Canadian Organic Science in action

OACC and OFC invite Canadian farmers at the Canadian Organic Science Conference

An interview with Rod MacRae, researcher on sustainable agriculture

Andy Hammermeister, director of OACC, explains why farmers and researchers cooperation is important

Why should farmers attend the Canadian Organic Scientific Conference in Winnipeg?
Farmers attending the COSC will be exposed to the full scope of organic research in Canada and be provided with an opportunity to contribute to strategic planning for future national research programs.

Are you satisfied with the cooperation between farmers and scientists?
Organic farmers and researchers have a tremendous opportunity to learn from each other. Organic farmers are leaders in knowledge development and innovation in organic farming systems. Scientists can help to refine these systems and advance the innovation more rapidly.
You are planning the next round of OSC; what is your plan for getting input from the farmers?
To identify priorities for the next round of the Organic Science Cluster, we will seek input from farmers and industry supporters at the science conference and by working with provincial organic councils or other provincial/regional bodies as appropriate. We are seeking specific research projects that are expected to have large impact and which the industry is prepared to provide some financial support to match AAFC funding.
